Stevan began his business career in the mid-1970s with Thomas Electronics in Fort Worth, Texas. At Thomas, Stevan was responsible for installing, programming, and supporting a wide variety of telecom switching systems manufactured by NEC, Plantronics, Tie, Toshiba, Mitel, and ITT. During his first five years, Stevan earned 19 certifications in various switching technologies, making him one of the country's top experts in electronic crossbar switches.
Due to Stevan's practical expertise, he was selected to join a team of business leaders and engineers whose mission, funded by a government grant, would enable paramedics in the field to communicate vital patient information to emergency room doctors remotely. This team invented a system capable of full-duplex telemetry transmission and voice communication that coupled the wireless capabilities of the FM radio with telecom switching. It was a huge success, resulting in networks of linked radio-telephone systems throughout Tarrant County, Texas, that resemble today's modern cellular networks.
By 1980, Stevan was senior vice president of the Telecom Division at Thomas Electronics. When he left to form Texa-Tel Communications, Inc., Stevan steadily grew this small but consistently profitable business from a modest $1K capital investment to $2.5 million in sales.
In 1989 Stevan sold his interest in Texa-Tel, which allowed him to join Inter-claim (International Claims Administration Corporation) in Dallas, Texas, at the request of Visa, his largest telecom client. Stevan continued his great success as Vice President of the Bank Card Division of Inter-claim until 1992, when he was asked to join Visa in Foster City, CA.
While working with the Visa Service Quality team in California, Stevan further expanded his skills by earning life health and accident insurance certification at Cal State and Bank Card Management through the University of Oklahoma.
Stevan left Visa during the early stages of the Internet to become one of the founders of Custom Branded Networks, a publicly traded company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In addition to practical skills honed as the Chief Operating Officer of a publicly traded company, Stevan continued his academic studies at the Decker Communication School of Effective Communications and studied the “Principles of SEC Reporting” with Grant Thornton and “International Business Transactions” at Berkeley Law School.
Stevan has successfully managed many marketing, sales, finance, and business operations teams. Typically, this involved developing strategies and implementing procedures and sales to major customers. Along the way, he also developed expertise working with international customers and software developers worldwide.
Having transitioned into semi-retirement, he has shifted his focus from Corporate Enterprise to working with small business startups and growing small and midsized companies. He provides in-depth consulting, coaching, and mentoring to help startups and small businesses find success with less stress and financial risk.
